Highgate.

Yesterday I went to London with my Daughter.

Hannah studies photography and we thought it would be nice to have a day out together fully armed with our cameras.
We ended up in Highgate Cemetery, Yes it was a weird place to go, but I actually find graveyards quite interesting.
We wanted to go into the Catacombs but unfortunately they were closed.

I can't go anywhere without finding a cat.

It was very overgrown in some places.
I don't think I would like to be there in the dark.

Jeremy Beadles grave stood out, bless him.

This caught my eye.
Robert Valentine Mitchell.
Born on the 14th of Feb 1887
Died on the 13th of Feb 1947

We left the Cemetery and walked through the Park in to Highgate Village.

Where I sat down on one of these benches resting my poor feet,
While Hannah took some more photo's.
As I sat waiting I thought about how much I have in my life to be grateful for.
I thought about all the people I have around me that make me happy.
All the things that make me smile.
Gosh how deep...!
This sign made me smile.

After all that walking and thinking I needed a rest, oh ok a cuppa and a cake !
So we head off to find a teashop.
We ended up in here.

Of course we couldn't go to London without nipping in to the centre for a little shopping.
That's when I spotted this display outside Selfridges.
I loved it...!
Yes it made me smile.

If you want to join me by taking a picture and popping it on your blog.
Something or someone who has made you smile or happy, that would be fab.
I would love to see it.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  1. My great nan and grandad are buried in highgate. I went there a few years ago with my mum and her friend . The tour was actually really interesting. After we went to look for my great grandparents graves - it was really sad as they had been vandalised (They are right on the edge of the cemetery). The weird thing was that we tried to take a picture on my camera - but it wouldn't take. When i tried to take a picture of something else it was fine. So my mums friend took a pic on her camera - it took, but then the film started winding on!! When she got the pics developed, the photos of the graves didn't come out, even though everything else did!! so bizarre - from that day on i've believed in spirits!!

  3. What a lovely post, I used to have to visit graveyards when I was a photography student.... I find the stories on the gravestones fascinating though!

  4. Looks like you had a lovely visit. How weird of Mr. Valentine Mitchell to be born on Valentine`s Day and to pop his clogs the day before his birthday, poor sod! I love the little crocheted blankets covering Baby(?)Rabbit`s(?)feet.Nothing`s made me smile today because some bad person broke the wing mirror off my car and left the scene of the crime anonymously - the whole unit has to be replaced for a large amount of money! Have a great weekend Em. x

  6. when I was in my teens I lived in Islington and did an antique stall in Camden Passage Market.
I was hopelessly smitten with the Pre-Raphaelites and we used to spend our weekends wandering around Highgate Cemetery looking for artist's graves...it wasn't a "managed" place then and really overgown, eerie and atmospheric!
I must confess I never stayed there when it got dark!

Hope Dottie and Willow are well, all love

  11. I love Highgate Cemetery. I grew up in Muswell Hill and all around Highgate was where I used to hang out. Back then, the old part was a wilderness and there were tales of a dracula type figure that lived in there! Well, kept us out I suppose lol.

  12. Hi Emma,

Thank you so much for mentioning my giveaway! The day out with your daughter sounds lovely. Highgate cemetery, I does ring bells with me. I believe I read a novel about it by Audrey Niffenegger. A sort of ghost story. I enjoyed seeing your daughter. She looks around the same age as one of my daughters. Ahhh to be a photography student. I wish I could go back in time and do some things over again.....

    Happy weekend!

    Lieve groet, Madelief

  26. Okay Em, how did I miss this gorgeous post?

Beautiful photos...sounds like you had a perfect day! I could do with a London visit. The last time I went there just me and shops was when I was pregnant with my eldest...that is shameful.

When we go there now it's to go to museums or meet up with family. I need another 'me and shops' day!

Thank you for such a beautiful post!

    Much love
